The Good to Know Project is full of advice + inspiration from artists/illustrators/designers

The Good to Know Project is full of advice + inspiration from artists/illustrators/designers on creativity, business and life. Every month, we ask one question and forward it to friends of Pikaland, who in turn will share their thoughts on a particular subject.

There’s so many things to learn — about creativity, about business, and also about how to manage it all. So right now, our doors open to everyone who needs a little lift in spirits. Maybe you’ll find a kindred spirit. You might even learn a thing or two. The best part is that everyone is in it together.

Pikaland makes booklets for purchase. The last number is called:
Good to Know #7: Have you ever been a victim of plagiarism?

Some of us has been there before. You see the work on the screen and you swear you've seen it before.
You did. Only it was in the pages of your portfolio.
When someone copies your work, it's a crime against the spirit of sharing that is prevalent online. I got my first taste of plagiarism when I found out that my designs were ripped off from a collegemate and boy, was I in a fit. Short of busting his chops and pulling him by the collar, being there in person made it easier to let him know exactly how I felt. Happily for everyone (especially the offender) he made the right choice of re-doing his project, and was still in one piece – and I did not press the matter further with my lecturers.
But what about in cyberspace where we can't threathen others physically? Or when there isn't someone to play referee? How do you go about stopping the person from benefitting from your hard work?
